IN THE MORNING
- Have a set place for your keys, wallet, handbag, mobile 'phone, sunnies and the like.
Work out agreed place or places to put down these things EVERY TIME YOU COME HOME, and get into this habit. Lo ! The next morning - there they are waiting for you. - Each night, make lunches for the next day and set up for breakfast.
Use TV commercial breaks to do this or last thing before bed. Organised start next morning! - Work out a routine for the mornings. With your partner or family make a list of the things that have to be done - work out WHO is going to do WHAT, and stick it on the fridge. Stick to it until it becomes habit.
- When you open the mail, do something with it! Don't just rip open, scan and drop. Try this - leave the mail until you have time to look at it properly. Then do something with each letter - set bills aside to be paid, reading stuff to your reading spot, junk mail to "Bin 13" and so forth.
- Keep bills for payment in one place and decide WHO pays them.
Use a clipboard or folder - and always put your accounts THERE. Early payment date bills on top. Whoever does the payments can check say every Saturday and get payments organised. Saves the "But I thought you paid it!" syndrome. - Have two (or more) pair of spectacles. If you can afford this, keep one set at your reading spot and the other wherever you need to read things at home. If you must move around with your specs, then fit them with a neck cord and keep them there. Always return them to the same place.
- Keep a shopping list on the fridge or on a pad. Add items to the list when you see they are getting low, before you run out! When you go grocery shopping - there is your shopping list.
- List birthdays and anniversaries.
Use a special diary, your computer or smart 'phone calendar features. Add all events on their days - then look at it each week and you will avoid the "You forgot our anniversary AGAIN" syndrome. - Make a "To Do" list for each week. Do you "put things off?"
Get these things out of your head and onto a list - keep the list with you - try to do ONE thing each day. Don't save them all up for the weekend.
Good habits like these will make daily things into a routine and YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THEM. Things will just happen and the hassles will begin to go away!
Next we can look at larger foul-ups, so you can go to the next "Help Page" - ELIMINATE TIME WASTERS.
